Planning Task 1: My Magazine Title and Strapline

Concept mindmap

Why i chose LUMÉ

From my research i found that the title LUMÉ is the strongest title choice for a fashion magazine as it targets modern, style-conscious women ages 16-25. I opted for a single word title for memory purposes, paired with a catchy versatile tagline. Its meaning of light or luminosity, pairs perfectly with the tagline ‘Glow with style,’ capturing the essence that fashion is a source of confidence, beauty and self-expression. Unlike my other opinions such as Éclat, which may feel less pronounceable to my target audience, or The Profile, which lacks emotional depth, LUMÉ is fresh, elegant and uniquely branded. It also suggests both inner and outer radiance, aligning with a magazine that aims to inspire readers to shine through society with their personal style.

Availability

My research explored potential titles for a fashion magazine aimed at women aged 16-25, focusing on themes of authenticity, elegance and artistic expression. My titles were brainstormed using a concept map and evaluated for availability through UK and foreign NLA searches. My key contenders included LUMÉ, Éclat, The Profile and The Portfolio, all of which tested well for uniqueness and relevance. The List however was ruled out due to availability issues, and Vera was flagged for the possible confusion with Vera Wang. Overall, the strongest options balance originality with the magazine’s goal of showcasing empowering, creative useful fashion content.

Audience feedback

Based on the responses from individuals aged 16-25 across various genders, ‘LUMÉ’ emerged as the most popular magazine title alongside ‘vera’, praised for its sleek, modern and high-fashion appeal. ‘Couture’ and ‘éclat’ also received strong support for their elegance and association with luxury. In contrast, titles like ‘the portfolio’ and ‘the profile’ were least favored, often criticized as sounding too generic or sounding too job like. For straplines, ‘the only style that matters’ (for the list) and ‘true style, truely you’ (for vera) were standout favorites due to their aspirational and stylish tone. Meanwhile, ‘true style, truely you’ was also less well-received, seen as being too cliche or sounding like skincare brand. Overall, the feedback shows a preference for names and taglines that feel polished, creative and are relevant.
